The House: Chapter 2

Previously, Chapter 1. (<– click here to read)

The next day, I had a hard time waking up. I was up all night thinking about what happened yesterday.

When Dad said there was no nanny, I came up to the attic. The woman wasn’t there. I searched the whole house but she was nowhere to be found. Dad said I was just imagining things, but, it felt so real. And it kept bugging me all night.

After what seemed so long, I fell asleep.

When I opened my eyes, I was already in the woods. It seemed like I was searching for something but I don’t know what it was. As I was walking, I spotted a small pond beside a big Sycamore tree. The sky was clear and no stars were seen but the moon shone brightly as the water reflected the sky.

As I walked towards the pond, I saw a boy about the same age as me. He was on the swing that was hanging from the sycamore tree. When he saw me, he called up to me.

“Hey! You’re new here?” he asked.

I walked towards him, “Yes, we moved here yesterday.”

He looked at me blankly.

“What’s your name?” he asked then started swinging.

“I’m Peter, and you?”

“I’m Mike. Mike Poulter”, he replied.

“How long have you been here?” I asked.

“I’m not sure, I forgot counting the days. I’ve been here since after what happened that day.” he answered.

I looked at him, confused. What is he talking about?

“What about you? What happened that day?” he added.

“What are you talking about? What day?” I replied.

“Oh, you don’t know? You’re here because of what happened that day.”

“What? I don’t get it.”

“You’re here because yo——-”

I woke up before he could finish what he was saying. I heard a scream from my sister’s bedroom.

I hurriedly came to her room and was shocked by the look on her face. She looked so scared and she was crying.

“What happened?!” I asked.

Then she pointed out to the floor.

There were our family pictures with Mom scattered all over the floor. But what creeped me out was Mom’s part in every picture.

All of it was torn, and her head was gone.
