Hey guys! I’m back after being away for two weeks (the reason why I haven’t been posting) plus! the heavy load of online class requirements is just so—draining….ughh. But! this week, I just turned 20! yay! and I figured out I should post something.
I want to share not how my day have been but instead, my thoughts on WHAT I’ve seen and felt that connects to the status quote above. So………….
What is perfection?
Perfection, my dear readers, is the cause of the unending cycle of ‘Always trying to be right, to be good enough, always thinking about how things could be better, how our life could have been more right and blaming ourselves for all the misfortunes we’ve been through.’ Felt…familiar, right? I think all of us have been through this and somewhere in one’s lifetime there was a time we’ve had moments of perfectionism.
But don’t blame yourself on this, it wasn’t your fault, his or her’s. It was the system, the society that made beauty less defined and a more commercialized thing. The beauty industry has a strange way of convincing you to love your body whilst making you feel ashamed and hating it.
I just want to let everyone know that you are beautiful in your own way. We all have different skin tones, hair, eyes, bodies, etc. and it would be boring if it wasn’t that way.
If society didn’t have an image of what the “perfect” person looked like would we still look in the mirror and not like what we see?
Sometimes I like to look at people like how I look at art. I’m fascinated by their shapes, the way they move, the way they talk. I’m fascinated by their differences, by their strangeness and little blemishes. Thinking people have to look perfect is the same mistake as thinking art has to be perfect. Because that’s not what makes it beautiful. It only becomes beautiful by its uniqueness and its character.
Beauty comes in all forms. If you’re going to think bad about yourself, here’s some advice. Think about the things that make you unique. Think about the people who made you feel happy and loved. Have a mindset that allows you to do things without feeling like you’re being judged. You can do this by thinking “If she thinks I’m too fat, she isn’t going to remember that for the rest of her life.” Because, whenever someone judges another person, they forget within hours. Just remember you aren’t trapped, and you are able to think whatever you want. But, thinking badly of yourself isn’t going to help you in life.
Isn’t society supposed to be loving?
So in our society: The skinny— gets bullied. Chubby—gets bullied. Curvy—gets bullied. Not curvy—gets bullied. Like…really?
It’s okay to be chubby. It’s okay to be skinny. It’s okay to be tall. It’s okay to be short. It’s okay to have curves. It’s okay to not have curves. But you know what is not okay? Being mean to someone because of how they look. Gosh no one actually cares about that.
And because of all these criticisms, I feel like we became very insecure, and we keep on trying to find validation for ourselves. I think that beauty comes from within as well as outside. We can’t except the fact that society has a standard of beauty. Some people wish that they could sing well and inspire but our voices don’t give us that ability. Just like how some of our genetics create beauty. We don’t have a choice when it comes to our looks and that goes for a lot of things in life. But we can’t discredit what is reality, some things are the way they are and that goes for beauty. As far as physical, I believe beauty within can be obtained by anyone, as long as you have a good heart. And that to me is true beauty, cause in the end we’re all just dust in the wind.
I don’t care if they judge me anymore. I wasn’t born to fulfil other’s expectations, this world has so much more to offer. —– Yesss, that’s right.
Here’s a little reminder for everyone who needs this:
Your value does not lie in how your body looks. You’re so much more than just a body. Don’t hate your body because your body has been there for you since day 1. It keeps you alive. Your body needs to be nourished and loved and there’s nothing shameful about that, any other thought is a lie, even if somebody else has made you feel otherwise.
Hating your body will never get you as far as loving it will. Trust me. Being skinny doesn’t equal being healthy. You were put on this earth to do and to create amazing things. How much you weigh, the size of your jeans, your natural physique, have nothing to do with that.
I’m sorry if you ever got bullied for your body. Just know that you’re good and perfect enough. You don’t need to gain or lose weight in order to fit into somebody else’s beauty standard.
So….. eat what you want (should be healthy, of course) and how much you want, wear whatever you want and love yourself for who you truly are, not what you think you should be. ❤
And…To whoever’s reading this, I hope this video make you feel better.
Stay safe everyone!! Love yaaa ❤

A very timely message, Christine! ❤ I think for young people especially, you are judged on your looks. Young girls tend to form cliques and exclude those who don't fit in. There is a lot of teasing and bullying of those who look or act differently…As adults, we hopefully can move beyond this superficiality and judge people on their character. Yes, even the opposite sex eventually learns this, even if it takes a break-up or two for it to sink in. 🙂 all the best! Cheryl

First of all, belated birthday wishes.🎉 Well articulated post, beauty is perceived to complement only physical characteristics instead of the mental persona. The society is meant to judge no matter what, the little we care about it, the more content we would be as individuals.

Yep. I couldn’t agree more. I think what we really need is to focus on what really matters and that’s not how others perceived us. Btw, thank you for the birthday wishes and thank you for sparing some time!😊 Hope you’re doing well. Stay safe and Godbless😊💕

We were really fed up with what the society wants us to believe what real beauty is which doesn’t even define what it really is. Thankful that I’ve stopped caring what others think about me, that way I became more happy. This is such a beautiful post. I love it, made me realize a lot of things. Thank you Christine! 😊

Dearest Christine, you are a gift. Happy belated birthday, by the way! 🎂♥️ I hope it was a special day to remember!
In all sincerity, I applaud you for writing this. I agree with you 100%!! How we LOOK is ridiculously shallow and superficial. WHO we are is what encompasses our gifts, talents and abilities. Each of us were given a unique skill set and attributes to accomplish exactly what we are purposed to do. We aren’t a mistake. Neither is what we look like. Diversity is beautiful. Copycat syndrome is not!
I pray each of us learn to value ourselves and what we offer as individuals. Thank you for being a beacon of light in a world that is full of darkness. We need your voice and inspiration. You’re a true gem ♥️

so very true. Whatever we do and however we look, someone is going to criticize. Therefore, it is better to find inner peace and stop paying heed to negative comments. A meaningful post…

Very well stated and true. “Art” does have many forms and shapes; therefore, celebrate every moment. Attitude and how you treat people is more important and impactful.

Why would we think others lack perfection, based solely on their appearance? Beauty is in the soul, not beautiful skin or perfectly coiffed hair. My brother always said “You have to look successful to be successful”. I countered with You have to be successful to look successful. Success is not appearance, but substances. Stay well.

Yes, society should be loving. But it’s not: You young people have to make it loving. And you try to do it by reflecting on this topic. Thank you!

Objectively there are very specific traits that humans deem to be attractive across cultures. Not everyone has these traits. Still, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
